Greetings from the Pronghorns Group!

Greetings from the Pronghorns Group!

Post by Mr. Swift

Traveling to our field site we had some BISON CROSSING!  We were delayed for a few minutes and were able to see these amazing animals in their truly wild environment.

Once in the field, we discussed different plant communities, such as Alpine, Sage, Conifer, Aspen, and Riparian.  As we were investigating these plant species, we were joined by 4 MOOSE! One had already entered the woods, the two to the right were females being chased by a huge male on the far left.  It was incredible to see this happen as if it were an everyday occurrence, maybe here, but definitely not in Brooklyn!

Students then got in groups and began acting out skits on how to describe a particular type of plant.

We later investigated Riparian (water located) plants and used watercolor paints to paint a plant of our choice.  It was a beautiful setting for painting.  As an art teacher, I was in my true element!

Students then used their senses except for sight, in order to use the knowledge they acquired to identify the type of plant.

Another group in the field.
